Baggywrinkle is where we write about the more esoteric aspects of sailing. This is the technical page with topics such as the boat and it’s systems, navigation and weather, sail trim and avoiding chafe.
Ted Brewer’s Comfort Ratio
Naval Architects and sailors love numbers and ratios. One of the numbers not cited in the Jason 35 page link is the Comfort Ratio. It is now a well accepted as providing a reasonable comparison of the comfort of boat motion. Read the detail by Ted Brewer here: http://www.tedbrewer.com/yachtdesign.html
The Comfort Ratio for a Jason 35 is 35.4, meaning quite comfortable compared to other monohull sailboats with keels. That is, it’s unfair to compare a Hobie 16 beach cat to a heavy cruising sailboat, which would be akin to comparing the comfort of a Honda motorcycle to a Mercedes-Benz E class sedan. It’s just a different experience.
