Final Preparations

A quick schedule update:

Dock-Chaos We’re still in Portland, aiming to leave Rose City Yacht Club this week and head down river to Astoria. Many projects and tasks have been completed. Yesterday I went aloft and took care of preventive maintenance high on the mast. There is a little bit of final buttoning up on some tasks and then load the boat. Ruth is buying groceries and provisioning the boat for the next two weeks. Randy: Don’t forget to fill the water tanks!

Friends and family have been tremendously helpful. Sailing friends Mike and Tim spent practically the whole day Tuesday helping get boat projects done. Experienced sailors, they know what is important and how to do it. Between boat projects and provisioning it feels like loosely managed chaos.

  1. Randy & Ruth, by this time you must have stowed your lines and become cruisers. What a noble and adventuresome thing to do!

    May the longtime sun
    shine on you,
    all love surround you,
and the pure light within you,
    guide your way on.

  2. and….had I thought about it in time I could have handed you your set of keys for the boat that were in the Club’s key box in case of an emergency. Let me know if you would like them 🙂

  3. We saw your AIS signal as you were passing Longview and we were headed into Walker Island, but couldn’t reach you on VHF. We also saw that your had set out from Astoria, and followed your signal until you got out of range. Wishing you smooth sailing as you continue south.

  6. Sorry we weren’t able to get together one more time before you take off. I know how valuable every moment is, and most projects take longer than you had hoped for. Happy, happy travels and explorations to you both! I’m looking forward to your future posts. Please remember you have a place to stay whenever you return to Portland. I will miss you (already do)! Safe travels. Bev
